Dr. Karbassi is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle reconstruction. He grew up in Malden, Massachusetts, where he played organized baseball as a catcher for 10 years. After graduating with honors from Malden Catholic High School, he was accepted to Boston University as a Medeiros scholar, which is an academic merit scholarship. He graduated from the dual degree program at BU with bachelor’s degrees in both human physiology and biochemistry/molecular biology. He then underwent additional training at the Boston University School of Medicine and School of Public Health, where he completed dual master’s degrees in public health and medical sciences.
Dr. Karbassi subsequently attended Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors. During his residency, Dr. Karbassi served as an assistant team physician for several Massachusetts college and high school sports teams, including football and ice hockey teams. He was also an active researcher, publishing his research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting his work at multiple national orthopedic conferences.
Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Karbassi completed his foot and ankle fellowship at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. There, he specialized in arthroscopic and open reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. He helped treat professional athletes from the NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, and several collegiate programs. While at the Hospital for Special Surgery, he continued his research endeavors, focusing on patient outcomes and helping them return to athletic participation after foot or ankle surgery. Dr. Karbassi served as a senior clinical associate in orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and was actively engaged in educating medical students and residents in training.
Dr. Karbassi enjoys spending his free time with his wife and children as well as his extended family in the Boston area. He plays tennis and basketball regularly and previously completed the Brooklyn Half Marathon.
