Physician Spotlight on Dr. Nicholas Pagani

How did you get interested in orthopedics?

I developed a passion for orthopedics in medical school after seeing the profound and immediate impact that joint replacement can have on a patient’s quality of life. I saw patients previously debilitated by hip and knee arthritis able to return to the activities they love after surgery. The opportunity to help patients restore their quality of life and achieve their individual goals truly resonated with me.

What is your practice philosophy?

My practice philosophy involves individualized treatment plans built specifically for each patient. I like to listen to my patients and understand their goals so that we can work towards improving their quality of life together. I believe in strong patient involvement in their treatment plan in order to achieve the best outcome possible.

What trends are you seeing in joint replacement?

The field of joint replacement is constantly evolving in new and exciting ways. The role of advanced technology including robotics continues to expand and has led to improved precision in hip and knee replacement. Minimally invasive surgical techniques and improvements in pain control have led to a faster recovery for patients and resulted in an increase in outpatient procedures. I am fortunate to have been trained on these techniques and incorporate them in my practice.

How do you stay current with advancements in orthopedics?

I am a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). I regularly review scientific articles for the Journal of Arthroplasty, the leading hip and knee replacement journal. I attend and present at both national conferences and local educational events in order to stay up to date on my specialty. I am eager to continually learn in order to provide the highest quality care for my patients.

What are your personal interests outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, playing golf, fishing, and exploring New England. I am an avid Boston sports fan and love Notre Dame Football.
